The Apex court quashes all the 122 telecom licenses, leaves Chidambaram’s fate in the hands of the trial court

The Supreme Court on 02-02-2012 (Thursday) cancelled all 122 2G licenses issued under 2G spectrum scandal in the year 2008. Bench comprised of justice G S Singhvi and A K Ganguly who monitored investigation in the scam delivered the verdict. Two major companies Swan Telecom and Unitech wireless who have also lost their licenses, have been imposed a penalty of Rs 5 crore.  21 licenses of Videocon, 9 of Idea, 3 of Tata, 22 Uninor, 6 of S-Tel, 21 Sistema Shyam, 13 of Swan and 21 of Loop licenses were scrapped.

Ankit Fadia, a 26 year old ethical Hacker who has already penned 14 books has come up with his new book ‘How to unblock everything on Internet’ in the capital today. The book tells readers how to unblock any site which is blocked on the system.

Speaking on the book launch, Fadia said-  “Banning or blocking websites on the Internet completely is not the answer and is a step away from democracy and could silence free speech all together. We need to find a middle ground which allows a more efficient mechanism to remove offensive content from the internet without blocking access to websites completely.”

TRAI has come out with a direction to all service access providers and international long distance operators for blocking bulk international SMSes.

Not too long ago, the unsolicited SMS nuisance had forced the Telecom Regulatory Authority of India (TRAI) to block and limit SMSes by call centre and commercial units last year. As per the guidelines given in The Telecom Commercial Communications Customer Preference Regulations, 2010 which have been implemented from 27 September, 2011, the delivery of unsolicited commercial calls or SMSs have been barred to the customers if they are registered on the National Customer Preference Register (NCPR). The action was taken to relieve the consumers of the annoying number of messages they received from various sources but ignored the international angle.

Based on Android 2.3 OS and featured with 1GHz Cortex A9 processor, Digital Waves, a Bangalore based IT firm launched its tablet in the competitive tablet market.

Digital Waves, a Bangalore based IT company has announced the launch of a new Android 2.3 tablet “tabplus Rio”. The tablet has 7” LCD screen with capacitive touch. With dimensions of 203 x 120 x 13 mm, the tablet weighs 350 grams.

The tablet comes equipped with 1 GHz processor which enables high-speed multitasking. It comes with memory of 512 MB DDR2 and storage up to 32GB with the help of Micro SD. The tablet also features 3G through USB dongle (selected models, sold separately), host of multimedia functions and wireless internet connectivity, Video Chat on Skype using front facing Camera and HD video play back.

The Board of Directors of BlackBerry manufacturer Research In Motion (RIM) today announced Thorsten Heins as its new president and CEO, replacing Mike Lazaridis and Jim Balsillie.  Mike Lazaridis has now become Vice Chair of RIM’s Board and Chair of the Board’s new Innovation Committee. Jim Balsillie also remains a member of the board.  Barbara Stymiest, who formerly served as a member of Royal Bank of Canada’s Group Executive and has been a member of RIM’s Board since 2007, has been named the independent Board Chair.  Heins joined RIM from Siemens Communications Group in December 2007 as Senior Vice President for Hardware Engineering and became Chief Operating Officer for Product and Sales in August 2011.
